Reasons to convert to electric…

1. Saving on Running Costs

The hot topic of conversation in the early part of 2022 has been the huge rise in energy costs across all fuels. This is putting households under pressure and is forcing us all to look for cost saving measures. These modern conversion kits provide and option to be able to help reduce ongoing running costs.

2. Eco Option

The future looks certain to hold renewables at front and centre of energy generation although I’m convinced that we’ll need a huge amount of hydrocarbons, which will play their role in pushing forward with the green infrastructure initiatives.

Although prices of ‘alternative energy’ are still high, they are starting to fall and this opens up the option of being able to make use of battery storage and/or solar panels. The idea of charging your battery on cheap rate electricity or through the solar panels and then using that battery to power the AGA, would prove to be a great combination to reduce running costs and move towards a greener existence.

3. Oil Problems

Over the past 15-20 years we have seen a dramatic increase in the amount of AGA range cookers which drop in temperature or go out all together before their 6 monthly service. We currently have around 60-70 customers (May 2022) who having issues with their oil fired AGA range cookers. The 2 main issues are the premature blocking of the burner (every 4-12 weeks) and a partial blockage in the oil control valve (a high percentage of which are going low within 1-3 days after an oil delivery).

4. Flue Issues

The electric conversions negate the need for a conventional flue which has 2 benefits. Firstly you have more flexibility about where you position the AGA cooker within your kitchen and secondly it avoids having to pay the high costs associated with replacing or repairing your existing flue in order to get the oil/gas/solid fuel range cooker back up and running.

5. Oil Tank needing to be replaced/re-sited

There can be situations where old oil tanks need to be replaced or sited in different positions and the costs associated with the work outweighs the benefits. With more and more households looking for alternative energy source for their conventional boilers, the electric conversion of the AGA range cookers could allow the customer to get rid of the oil tank completely.

6. More flexibility

With the modernising of kitchens and the recent warm summer weather we’ve been experiencing, some AGA cooker owners are needing a more flexible fuel allowing them to turn their cookers on/off with greater ease. This is where the electrically powered AGA cookers are easy to control.

Modern Conversions

Electrickit and eControl Conversions

There are currently 2 types of electric conversions suitable for most models of AGA Range Cookers.

  1. Electrickit - Suitable for All AGA Cooker Models

  2. eControl - Suitable for Post 1974 Deluxe AGA Cooker * From June 2022*

Both conversions work in slightly different ways and produce different performances, but both allow you to turn off parts of the cooker when you’re not using them and therefore reduce running costs. Please see the notes on both conversions, their characteristics and which cookers they are compatible with.

Running Costs:

The most important factor to determine the cost of running an electric AGA is the cost you pay per KW of electric. If you multiply your current cost per kW by the average usage. The below figures are based on the appliance running up to normal AGA temperatures 24 per for 7 days. However you can greatly reduce the running costs by leaving parts of the cooker turned off or low.
